I have been learning German with Joana for a few months. I have been very impressed with her skill and professionalism, but particularly with her warmth, positivity and encouraging manner. She gives clear explanations, using repeated and familiar phrases, and is always happy to answer questions or discuss tricky concepts further. She has obvious skill in noticing if I'm struggling on a point and intersperses heavier content with lighter material. I have gained confidence in speaking, writing and reading German, and my ability to understand spoken German is markedly better. I would recommend Joana to anyone!

Joana is a great language teacher. Whilst the immersive language learning experience is, at times, hard, Joana somehow makes it work. She is easy to understand, speaks clearly and precisely, and never makes you feel stupid. Joana forces me to discuss complicated subjects and find creative ways around the barriers created by not knowing words you think you need. I am increasingly enjoying being able to communicate my thoughts better in German and I have Joana to thank for that.

Last year I had two months of conversation sessions with Joana, as I needed a little push to start talking to my colleagues also in German. As my level was B2 and I was mainly interested in conversation, Joana suggested that I pick the topic which I'd like to talk about, alternatively she'd given random one to me. We would generally agree on the topic a week in advance, so I'd have enough time to prepare. And then we would just chat about it. During our chats, she would correct my grammar, suggest which expressions I should use (in case I was missing the correct one), but without interrupting too often, so our conversation would still go smoothly. Our lessons didn't feel as such, they were rather like hangouts with a person you have a lot to talk about, learn from and have fun while doing so.
